Amended New York State Mandated Child Abuse/Neglect Training(Must be compl
eted by November 17\, 2026)Instructor: Jennifer Hoover\, Facilitator - Ce
nter for the Prevention of Child Abuse (CPCA) RegisterSynopsis: \n The New
York State Department of Education\, due to recent amendments to\n Social
Services Law 413\, is requiring the addition of "Adverse \nChildhood Expe
riences and Trauma\, Implicit Bias\, and Identification of \nChild Abuse v
irtually" to its mandated Child Abuse Training Course. Due \nto these amen
dments\, ALL dentists are required to take this course in \norder to meet
the once-in-a-lifetime mandate for dental licensing.Studies\n conclude tha
t professionals that have contact with children report only\n half of the
incidents that may be abuse maltreatment/neglect (Research \nfoundation\,
2011). The reason for this low report rate was due to the \nconfusion or m
isunderstanding about the laws and procedures and a lack \nof knowledge or
awareness of warning signs. The study also found the \nprofessionals are
often influenced by their professional beliefs\, \nvalues\, and past exper
iences (Research foundation\, 2011). This prompted \nthe state of New York
to require mandated reporter training. After completing this course\, the
learner will be able to: 1) \n Effectively report child abuse or maltreatm
ent/neglect to New York \nState Central Register (SCR) of Child Abuse and
Maltreatment. The SCR is\n also referred to as the "Hotline."2) Evaluate
situations to \ndetermine the reasonable cause to suspect child abuse and
\nmaltreatment/neglect\, whether in person or virtually.3) \nIdentify phy
sical and behavioral indicators associated with child abuse \nand maltreat
ment/neglect\, whether in person or virtually.4) Describe legal framework
s for mandated reporters and the New York State Child Protective Services.
