2020 9th District Dues Increase Based on Cost of Living Adjustment (COLA) of 1.5% for Active Members

Increase 2020 Ninth District Dental Association dues based on the Cost of Living Adjustment (COLA) of 1.5% for Active Members ($4).

The below resolution will be presented for vote at the Board of Governor's Tuesday, September 3, 2019 meeting at Casa Rina Restaurant, Thornwood, NY.

Explanation:  Increases 2020 Ninth District Dental Association dues based on the Cost of Living Adjustment (COLA) of 1.5% for Active Members ($4).

Amendment AB 1-19 (Bd Resolution 8-19)

RESOLVED, that the Board approves a COLA increase of dues and recommends that Bylaws, Chapter III, Finances, line 23 of Section 1, be amended as follows: The dues of the Association for active members shall be $280 $276 per year…; and be it further

RESOLVED, that these amendments will be effective 2020.

Background:  The last dues increase for active members went into effect in 2017 and for active life members it was 2018.  Membership continues to grow, and new member initiatives are always ongoing, thus the cost of serving members has also increased substantially.  At a meeting of the Audit Budget Committee and 9th officers it was decided to seek the Board’s approval for 2020 COLA dues increase of less than the 1.5% rate of inflation.

The Board’s authority to recommend a COLA dues increase is set forth on page 12 of the Bylaws, Chapter X, “Amendments,” #4 lines 1 thru 7 which reads:

4.         Dues amendments relating to cost of living increases.  The dues of the Association for active and active life members shall be increased as recommended by the Audit Budget Finance and Management Committee annually by a sum no greater than the rate of inflation and if passed by a two-thirds (2/3) affirmative vote of the Board of Governors present and voting.

5.         For the purposes of this section the “rate of inflation” shall be the annual percentage change in the U.S. Department of Labor’s Consumer Price Index – All Urban Consumers (CPI_U): Selected area, all items index – Selected local areas - New York, as of the preceding May 31.
