Gingival Recession: Considerations in Diagnosis & Treatment

Description Gingival recession is the apical migration of the gingival margin to the cementoenamel junction. This is a fairly common clinical condition for which patients often seek treatment. Fortunately, soft tissue grafting procedures are highly predictable in correcting these mucogingival deficiencies around natural teeth. However, a good understanding of the diagnosis, etiology, and technique choice are required for the successful management in treating gingival recession.

Key Learning Objectives

  • Understand the etiology of gingival recession.
  • Discuss the multiple classification systems of gingival recession.
  • Describe the decision-making process in addressing the gingival recession.
  • Understand the various treatment options for gingival recession.
