Dentists face loan forgiveness deadlines based on funding date

Dentists can calculate their deadline for applying for Paycheck Protection Program loan forgiveness based on when they received their COVID-19 pandemic relief funding, but the deadline for those who received first draw PPP loans is now, Allen Schiff, president of the Academy of Dental Certified Public Accountants, told ADA News. The Small Business Administration opened an application portal to streamline the process for borrowers with PPP loans of $150,000 or less, Mr. Schiff said. Dentists can still apply for Economic Injury Disaster Loans through Dec. 31, but these loans are not forgivable. Mr. Schiff said many ADA members may be eligible for the Employee Retention Tax Credit but should discuss this option with an accountant or adviser. The ADA has a Q&A with Mr. Schiff for more details on the tax credit. "This is great news to the dental profession, for it creates additional working capital for dental practices impacted by the pandemic," Mr. Schiff said.
