Oral Sexually-Transmitted Diseases and Oral Cancer

Synopsis: This program session will introduce the audience to the topic of sexually-transmitted diseases with oral manifestations of significance to oral health care providers. The infectious diseases discussed will cover syphilis, gonorrhea, herpes simplex virus infections, human papillomavirus infections, as well as opportunistic oral lesions secondary to human immunodeficiency virus infection. This will be followed by an update about the role of dentistry in the early detection and diagnosis of oral potentially malignant disorders (leukoplakia and erythroplakia) and oral cavity/HPV-related oropharynx cancers.
