Welcome to the Ninth District Dental Association

The Ninth District Dental Society was formed in 1909 and renamed to the Ninth District Dental Association in 2002. We have a membership of over 1500 dentists in 5 counties: Westchester, Rockland, Dutchess, Orange and Putnam.

In its quest to serve both the public and the profession, the Ninth District embodies the highest ideals.

The mission of the 9th District Dental Association is to serve and support its members and the public by improving the oral health of our community through Advocacy, Continuing Education and Camaraderie.

Oral Sexually-Transmitted Diseases and Oral Cancer


Instructor:  A. Ross Kerr, D.D.S., M.S.D.
Clinical Professor - Department of Oral & Maxillofacial Pathology, Radiology & Medicine  at NYU College of Dentistry. Diplomate of the American Board of Oral Medicine, Past President of the American Academy of Oral Medicine, and Director of the American Board of Oral Medicine, among other groups and positions.

Synopsis:  This program session will introduce the audience to the topic of sexually-transmitted diseases with oral manifestations of significance to oral health care providers.  The infectious diseases discussed will cover syphilis, gonorrhea, herpes simplex virus infections, human papillomavirus infections, as well as opportunistic  oral lesions secondary to human immunodeficiency virus infection.  This will be followed by an update about the role of dentistry in the early detection and diagnosis of oral potentially malignant disorders (leukoplakia and erythroplakia) and oral cavity/HPV-related oropharynx cancers.
