The Ninth District Dental Society was formed in 1909 and renamed to the Ninth District Dental Association in 2002. We have a membership of over 1500 dentists in 5 counties: Westchester, Rockland, Dutchess, Orange and Putnam.

In its quest to serve both the public and the profession, the Ninth District embodies the highest ideals.

The mission of the 9th District Dental Association is to serve and support its members and the public by improving the oral health of our community through Advocacy, Continuing Education and Camaraderie.

WHO fluoride toothpaste designation is important step

The World Health Organization's inclusion of fluoride toothpaste on its Model List of Essential Medicines last year aligns with the ADA's long-held position that fluoride is a safe and effective tool for caries prevention. It also highlights the ADA Seal of Acceptance, which has been given to 57 fluoride toothpastes, according to ADA News. "In the US, the ADA has been a strong supporter of fluoride toothpaste for many decades as it is one of the best evidence-based caries prevention strategies available to the general public," said Carlos Gonzalez-Cabezas, D.D.S., Ph.D., a professor at the University of Michigan School of Dentistry and a member of the Seal Subcommittee of the ADA Council on Scientific Affairs. "In fact, many would argue this is the most important reason for the decline in caries prevalence in most developed countries, including the US, in the last 50 years."
