The Ninth District Dental Society was formed in 1909 and renamed to the Ninth District Dental Association in 2002. We have a membership of over 1500 dentists in 5 counties: Westchester, Rockland, Dutchess, Orange and Putnam.

In its quest to serve both the public and the profession, the Ninth District embodies the highest ideals.

The mission of the 9th District Dental Association is to serve and support its members and the public by improving the oral health of our community through Advocacy, Continuing Education and Camaraderie.

"Comfortably Numb - A Review of Sedation Alternatives in the Dental Office"

Synopsis:    
This course will introduce sedation in the dental office to the health care professional. An overview of the available pharmacological techniques to manage the anxious patient in the dental office is presented. The advantages and disadvantages as well as indications and contraindication of each sedation modality are discussed. A brief review on local anesthesia pharmacology as well as case review.

Objectives:
1)  Review  the different levels of the sedation continuum and their features.       
2)  Discuss the advantages and disadvantages of each of the sedation techniques.
3)  Discuss the pre-sedation assessment of patient physical status.
