The Organized Dentistry Coalition is supporting new legislation to improve oral health care for children and low-income pregnant women, according to ADA News. In a March 23 letter, led by the American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry, the coalition thanked Sens. Ben Cardin, D-Md., and Debbie Stabenow, D-Mich., for introducing the Ensuring Kids Have Access to Medically Necessary Dental Care Act, which calls for improved dental coverage under the Children's Health Insurance Program. The bill would remove dollar limits on annual and lifetime coverage for dental services provided under CHIP, including those provided to low-income pregnant women. It also calls for wraparound dental coverage for children with other health benefits to be equivalent to dental coverage for CHIP enrollees.
