 Instructor:           Amrita Patel, D.D.S.

 Synopsis:  Dental insurance touches every single patient conversation and every line of your P&L, yet most dentists, regardless of how long they've been in practice, were never actually taught how the system works. This course pulls back the curtain on dental benefits: how plans are structured, how codes get created and valued, where fee schedules come from, and where the gaps between "covered" and "paid" quietly erode practice revenue and patient trust.

 Drawing on years of first-hand experience navigating dental benefits from both the clinical and business sides, this session goes beyond the front-desk basics. New dentists will walk away finally understanding a system that clinical training never covered. Seasoned owners and multi-practice leaders will leave with sharper language for fee negotiations, a clearer read on where their practice is leaving money on the table, and concrete strategies for protecting fee integrity as insurance pressures intensify. Whether you're building your first associate contract or running a multi-site group, this is the insurance education dental school skipped: built for every stage of the career, not just the start of it.

AHRQ Seeks Topic Nominations for EPC Reports

Feb 13, 2024
Per the notice below, the Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality (AHRQ) is calling for nominations for topics for its Evidence-based Practice Center (EPC) to work on.

Call for Nominations for Future EPC Reports by March 30, 2024!

What health care decisions are you struggling with?  Would a review of the scientific evidence help inform this decision?  Share your ideas with the Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality’s (AHRQ) Evidence-based Practice Center (EPC) Program.  AHRQ will use these ideas to determine the focus of its evidence reports for next fiscal year (i.e., AHRQ can provide an evidence report at no cost).  Your input is important!

You can suggest a topic for a future evidence report until March 30, 2024 at:
https://effectivehealthcare.ahrq.gov/get-involved/suggest-topic
.

The AHRQ EPC Program reviews and summarizes the available evidence on current health care issues, such as tests, treatments, and methods of health care delivery, and describes their advantages or disadvantages.  These reviews are based on relevant published and unpublished scientific literature and provide comprehensive, evidence-based information to consumers, clinicians, and policymakers.  Evidence reports can help:

  • Clinicians and policymakers understand the benefits and harms of different tests and treatments;
  • Health systems and policymakers understand the best options for implementing a new program or intervention;
  • Patients make better decisions about their health care options;
  • Understand health inequities and can inform actions to reduce health disparities.

The EPC program will review these nominations for potential reports that could start later this year.  We will review every proposed topic with our selection criteria (https://effectivehealthcare.ahrq.gov/about/epc/nomination/).  Information about why this is an issue for you, how you would use a report, and what you would like to see changed will especially be helpful.  You can see other topics that have been proposed at: https://effectivehealthcare.ahrq.gov/get-involved/nominated-topics/.  If you have any questions, contact: epc@ahrq.hhs.gov.
