"Orofacial Manifestations of Systemic Diseases"

Course Objectives

Oral cavity is readily accessible for inspection and a gateway for assessment of general health. In fact, many systemic conditions affecting organs far from the head and neck region could manifest in the orofacial region, sometimes prior to their diagnosis. Abnormalities detected in the orofacial region may also represent complications related to medical therapy or raise concerns about substance abuse. This program provides illustrative examples of orofacial findings associated with diagnosed or subjectively silent systemic disease, medical therapy and substance abuse. Relevant signs, symptoms, and diagnostics are reviewed and the potential role of oral health care providers in recognition, referral, follow-up and overall management is emphasized.

OPWDD Holding Strategic Planning Public Forums

Apr 17, 2024

Per the notice below, the New York State Office for People With Developmental Disabilities (OPWDD) is holding a series of strategic planning forums.

Coming Soon: OPWDD Strategic Planning Forums

Long Island Regional Forum: May 14, 1 to 3 p.m.

Dear Friends and Colleagues,

I am happy to announce the 2024 round of Strategic Plan updates and listening sessions that will be happening in the coming weeks throughout the state.  These forums are a chance for you to share your experiences, ideas, and feedback with OPWDD.  The forums will focus on hearing your feedback on the 2023 - 2027 OPWDD Strategic Plan, and will include a brief update on our goals and objectives, a moderated question and answer period where people can submit questions in advance for OPWDD to respond to at the events, and a public comment period in which people can share their thoughts, ideas, and suggestions with OPWDD.  I encourage you to consider joining us at one of the forums this year if you are a person with a developmental disability, a family member or caregiver, provider, Care Coordination Organization (CCO) representative, direct support professional, or someone who serves in other roles that interact with the OPWDD service delivery system.  I am excited to kick-off this year's events on Long Island, where the first forum will be held on Tuesday, May 14th from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. at our Regional Office at 415-A Oser Ave., Hauppauge, NY 11788.  Additional details, including a link to register for this and other forums, will be shared soon.  The stories, ideas, and vision that many of you have shared at past events have been so important in driving our work forward.  It is only in working collaboratively that we can achieve the goals we created together that are included in our strategic plan.  I hope to hear from many of you at the forums and look forward to seeing you all soon!

Sincerely,
Kerri Neifeld
Commissioner
