HHS OIG Issues Report on Medicare Advantage Plans
Per the notice below, the Office of the Inspector General (OIG) of the United States Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) has issued a report finding serious payment problems with Medicare Advantage plans.
Medicare Advantage: Questionable Use of Health Risk Assessments Continues To Drive Up Payments to Plans by Billions (OEI-03-23-00380)
A new report found that Medicare Advantage companies continue to use questionable Health Risk Assessments, boosting their payments from Medicare by a total of $7.5 billion in 2023. These findings raise concerns that either these payments to the companies are improper or that enrollees may not be receiving possibly needed care for serious health conditions.
