GAO Issues Report on Health Insurance Premium Tax Credit Calculations

The United States Government Accountability Office (GAO) has issued a report on how the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) calculates and applies health insurance premium tax credits in relation to certain non-mandated state benefit costs. GAO found that CMS exercised inadequate oversight of state health benefit costs and had no assurance that it was applying health insurance premium tax credits properly.
