"Patient Safety in Office-Based Anesthesia: A Team-Based Approach"

Instructor:  Naixi Li, M.D., Ph.D.

Synopsis:  Patient safety rests on the choice of right procedures and the selection of the patient with the appropriate comorbidities.  Safety extends from intra-op (in-office) to post-op (home): a good plan (involving anesthesia management and the surgical management) is needed to assure the execution.  A back up with a reliable hospital admission capability is essential.  Who should be included in the team" to help in achieving the safe, office-based practice?  Pre-Op evaluation; Intra-op support; Post-op recovery; Post-op follow-up (the next day).  Several examples of cases with undesirable outcomes will be shared to explore the safety features of the anesthesia/surgery management in offices.
