"Long-Term Effects, Realistic Expectations with Implant Restorations" and "The Dental Restorative Battlefield"

Instructor:  Vincent Celenza, D.M.D.
Diplomate of the American Board of Prosthodontics, Past President - American Academy of Esthetic Dentistry, Past President and Fellow of Northeastern Gnathological Society, Fellow of Greater NY Academy of Prosthodontics, Fellow of American College of Prosthodontics.

Synopsis:  Dental implants versus tooth retention raises critical questions about long-term oral health, function, and philosophy of care. Retaining natural teeth, wen possible, aligns with a conservative approach that values biological preservation and minimizes surgical risk.  Implants on the other hand, offer stable, aesthetic replacements for missing teeth but can present complications such as infection, bone loss, or mechanical failure.  The decision often depends on the tooth's prognosis, the patient's systemic health, and cost considerations.  Advocates of implants emphasize their predictability and independence from adjacent teeth.  Supporters of retention argue that natural structures, once lost, cannot be truly replicated.  Balancing these options requires thoughtful evaluation of both function and philosophy - preserving what remains versus replacing what's gone. Ultimately, the best choice supports long-term comfort, stability, and health rather than focusing on short-term convenience.
