Synopsis: The genius Homo is a 2.5-million-year-old lineage while our species, Homo sapiens, as a species, are about a 250,000-year-old linage. Yet there is little evidence of caries, periodontitis, or malocclusions before about 10,000 years ago. Curiously this corresponds with the Neolithic period and the dawn of human agriculture.

This lecture will explore the role of genetics and environment in the development of the so called “diseases of civilization,” with a focus on these dental maladies. We will explore the thesis that reverting to what I term A Species-Appropriate Diet for Humans is what our genetics has prepared us for and is the proper tool for not just treating, but actually eliminating, these diseases.
