New Videos!  How RETAIN’s Stay-at-Work/Return-to-Work Program Changes Lives

Every year, millions of workers leave their jobs after an illness or injury—even though many want to keep working.  For states and employers, this means lost talent, higher costs, and missed opportunities to support recovery and economic stability.  USDOL’s RETAIN initiative—for Retaining Employment and Talent After Injury/Illness Network—sets out to change that.  RETAIN is an early intervention program that coordinates workers’ health care and employment services early and often, allowing people to get back to work as soon as medically possible after a disability.  Through a new series of videos produced by USDOL, you can hear directly from RETAIN participants across the country.  Their stories offer details about their experiences with recovery, along with an overview of RETAIN and its impact on workforce retention.

Webinar: Supporting Workers After Illness or Injury—Insights from RETAIN

Join Mathematica and federal and state partners for an evidence-informed conversation on practical lessons from the RETAIN initiative—the largest federal effort to date focused on helping workers stay connected to the labor force after illness or injury.  This webinar, “Supporting Workers After Illness or Injury: Insights from the RETAIN Demonstration,” will share implementation insights from participating states, highlight emerging evaluation findings, and explore implications for state and national stay-at-work/return-to-work policy.  The webinar is designed for state workforce, disability, health, and insurance agency leaders; federal policymakers and program staff; workforce development and vocational rehabilitation professionals; researchers and evaluators; and employer and provider partners interested in stay-at-work/return-to-work strategies.  Join us on Tues., Feb. 10, from noon to 1:15 p.m. ET.

Webinar: Suicide Prevention in the Workplace

Suicide affects workers in businesses of all sizes and in all industries.  These fatalities are often preventable losses impacting families, colleagues, and entire organizations.  In every workplace, employers can help recognize the warning signs and connect employees with support.  Join the USDOL Employer Assistance and Resource Network on Disability (EARN) and the National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI) on Wed., Feb. 18, from 2:00 to 3:00 p.m. ET, for the webinar “From Awareness to Action: Suicide Prevention in the Workplace” to learn how to implement suicide prevention efforts at work.  Presenters will cover suicide warning signs, effective intervention and communication strategies, and steps employers can take to foster a work environment that reduces risk factors and promotes help-seeking behaviors.  A live Q&A will follow the presentation.

Supporting Mental Health and Well-Being in Small Businesses

Employers, especially small business owners, have a new resource to help support their employees’ mental health and well-being.  EARN’s “Small Business Guide for Supporting Employees with Mental Health Conditions or Substance Use Disorder in the Workplace” offers practical, cost- and resource-effective strategies for small businesses to reduce turnover, boost productivity, and create healthier, more supportive work environments for employees, including those experiencing mental health conditions or substance use disorder.

Promoting Workplace Dialogue on Disability
